Welcome message

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Doctoral Students Network (DSN) is a premier international students' organization in the Pacific Rim. The DSN echoes the objectives of APRU in fostering cooperation in education, research and enterprise among the doctoral students of 42 leading research universities from 16 economies in the Pacific Rim.

One of APRU's many distinguishing programs includes the annual Doctoral Students Conference (DSC). The APRU DSC aims to bring doctoral students in the Pacific Rim together for intellectual and social interaction. Students from every field of inquiry, whether at the beginning, middle or final stages of their research, are encouraged to share their findings not only with those in the same research areas but also with others from outside their disciplines during the conference. Over the years, the conference has proven to bring immense benefits to doctoral student participants. They receive not only constructive peer critique that contributes to their ongoing research efforts but also, at the same time, acquire valuable international experience and networking opportunities.

This 10th annual DSC will be held at Kyoto University in Japan, from 6th to 10th July 2009. Kyoto university is 110 years old and one of the most prestigious universities in Japan. It is comprised of many graduate schools, faculties, research institutes and centers, and strives for diverse development in pure and applied research in sciences, technology and the humanities.

Kyoto is one of Japan's most historical cities, having existed for over 12 centuries. The city has many old temples, shrines, gardens, and cultural heritage sites which form a backdrop to Japan's long history. Some of them are recognized as official World Heritage Sites. It is the best place for learning about Japanese culture. The conference program will include some social programs, such as tours of Kyoto University facilities etc.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Japan!!
